Host a New Years Eve Party

Host a New Years Eve Party

Theme to Host a New Years Eve Party

One of the best parts about planning to host a New Years Eve party would be deciding on the theme. Even thought it’s not essential to have a themed-party, it can be a great way to lift your party and get your guests excited. Going with a themed party means your style, decorations, food and drinks all have to be in theme – so for any indecisive planners out there – a theme would be the way for you to go. Just make sure deciding the theme is your first decision so you don’t have to start planning your party again!

Here are some theme ideas:

Masquerade party

This has to be one of the most popular choice since it doesn’t require too much thought for your guests. It’s also really fun to get all glammed up to bring in the New Year.

Secret agent party

Your guests will enjoy this theme since they will still be able to dress fancy and will only have add some sunglasses, secret agent name badges and/ or ear pieces to the outfit.

80’s dance party

Get your dancing shoes ready and pull out the leg warmers, taffeta and crimping iron!

Black and white party

Super simple for your guests! Who doesn’t have black or white clothes?

When it comes to a New Year Eve’s Party, glitter, confetti and sparkly decorations are a must. After all, a New Year Eve’s party is the best excuse to go all-out on decoration we wouldn’t probably use for any other occasion. And this is pretty much the only one occasion where the more decorations you use, the better the it will look. However, you can still be sure that your gold, silver and black theme will still impressed your guests by its chic and its class.

Party Affairs have a variety of businesses that offers everything you need to decorate your house, no matter your requirements. We have picked out our top picks from our favourite stores.

When it comes to tableware, we recommend Hip & Hooray. They have a great range of plates, cutely, cup and more. We recommend these Gold Foil Confetti Plates, only $9.50 for a pack of 10.

We are loving those metallic jumbo confetti dots by Ruby Rabbit for $11,95.

Check out those Confectionately Yours’s Splash Napkins. It could be a good idea to put a punch of colour in your decor with peachy tones. Only $9.95 for a pack of 20.

If you are styling a black and gold or a white and gold theme why not get this stunning gold cutlery range from Ruby Rabbit Partyware for your table.

For this party it’s definitely all about the atmosphere and a backdrop is the perfect idea to get the party going. Favor Lane offer those lovely metallic fringe for only $14.95 that would also work perfectly for a 80’s party.

Otherwise, if you are ready to take on a challenge, we have the perfect DIY for you.

This little project is probably one of the easiest since it only require 3 steps; measure, cut and tie! The part of the process where you get to be creative is definitely the fabric choosing. Choose whatever fabrics fits your party theme the most, for example, for a Secret Agent or black and white themed party – blacks, greys and whites would do the trick!

Sparkling lights and candles is the perfect mix to helps to set the mood at a party. It’s super simple, only need to buy a few white pillar candles, and to dress them up for the occasion with some glittery paper. Quick and easy!

Food & Drinks

When it comes to the food and drinks we think food stations is a great idea. It means that your dishes will be separated by type and will be spread out around the party space. This will also make it much easier for you to stick to a theme, for example, Hors d’oeuvres are often used for a masquerade party as it oozes sophistication!

One of the advantages of the food stations over a buffet is that it creates more mobility so there’s less congestion and everyone can get their food at once. You can completely customize your food to you and your guests’s taste and you can offer more variety than a traditional plated dinner service would. It’s basically a much more fun and chic alternative to buffet tables while using the more elegant aspects of a sit-down dinner.

Bev’s Catering is a catering business based in Sydney. They specialise in simple dinner parties, corporate functions, and many other types of events. Have look a this charcuterie platter. It would look amazing in an antipasto station! And what about a mini-burger bar!

We also recommend Flavours Catering, a Sydney based business. They are passionate about creating food that is a joy to eat. They are familiar with the idea of food stations and already have a few suggestion for you. Have a look at that build your own burger station and this sushi station!

And of course, no party is complete without some delicious and refreshing drinks – especially on a hot summer night!

One classic New Year drink is the sparkling wine or champagne. A nice non-alcoholic alternative is some cold pink lemonade. Have a look at our DIY Champagne Bar if you’re hosting a masquerade party, it fits in with the sophistication of the theme.

Check out Shorty’s Liquor for all of your beverages requirements. They are based in Ultimo and with their own fleet of vans and drivers, they are able to offer a premium delivery service to the Sydney CBD and surrounding suburbs including same day delivery or if required a cold specified 3 hour window from Monday to Saturday.

Alternatively, if you’re going to make your own drinks, we love this summer punch recipe:

French 75

16 ounces (2 cups) gin (preferably a London dry gin, such as Tanqueray)

8 ounces (1 cup) freshly squeezed lemon juice

6 ounces (3/4 cup) Simple Syrup (see separate recipe)

1/2 teaspoon orange bitters

32 ounces (4 cups) dry Champagne or other sparkling dry white wine, chilled

1 large ice block or two smaller blocks

8 orange wheels, for garnish

1.In a punch bowl, combine the gin, lemon juice, simple syrup, and bitters and stir until thoroughly blended.

2.Just before serving, pour in the Champagne and stir gently. Add the ice and garnish with the orange wheels.

3.To serve, ladle into punch glasses.

Now that the invitations, the decorations, the food, the drinks are sorted out, it’s time to think of a few fun games. What better way to bring in the New Year than with a festive party and a little competition among friends and family members? Whether you need an icebreaker for a large group or a fun activity for a few adults, there is plenty of New Year’s Eve-themed games that will give you something do while waiting for the ball to drop.

Here is a few suggestions.

Highlights of the year

This adult New Year’s Eve party game is all about getting the conversation going at your party and hearing about everyone’s favorite memories from the past year.

Heads Up!

Heads Up is an app developed by Ellen DeGeneres that can be purchased on both iOS and Android.

To make it a drinking game, simply add taking a drink when somebody gets it wrong. If you have more than three people, teams can be formed.

Guessing Games

Here’s a New Year’s Eve game for adults that will give everyone an opportunity to share their New Year’s resolutions. The trick is that you’ll need to playing a guessing game to find out who’s is who.

Don’t forgot to make sure someone is keeping an eye on the time! It’s quite common that people are talking and dancing their way through the countdown only realising it around five minutes past twelve.

We hope you will enjoy your New Year Party with your family and friends! Happy New Year xx
