Mother’s Day is always the ultimate time to celebrate the wonderful women in our lives. They’ve done so much for us, it’s time to give back! Instead of a traditional lunch or dinner, a classy high tea is a fantastic and elegant way to enjoy delicious food. Bring out the good china, pour your mum a great cup of tea and spend quality time together. We styled our high tea with Moly Styling Mad’s tips for creating a beautiful fun atmosphere, juxtaposing the stripes and lace with fine china. We decided to go for a more fun approach, so we mixed & matched different China so that everyone gets their own pattern! Bring out the hot tea in a teapot so that everyone can refill as they please. To complement the tea, bring out some scones with jam and cream like Flavours Catering provided us with.


A must-have for anything Mother’s Day themed is flowers! No one can deny that any mother LOVES florals! So, after deciding on the theme of the food, we used flowers to add elegance to our tablescape. We chose soft colours to compliment the food, and tie into the theme, especially to match the cake! Florabomb Florals in Sydney provided us with these beautiful hydrangeas, dahlias, siam tulips and David Austin roses in various shades of pink and white.


Traditionally, high teas use cake stands that hold the savoury and sweet foods. However, because we do things a little differently here at Party Affairs, we thought we’d separate the sweets from the savoury. Plus, this means that you can fit more on the table! We highly recommend using cake stands if you have access to any. We used various tiered cake stands and plates to display the food and disperse the clutter.


Firstly, we started out with the savoury foods. We wanted to hire a caterer to cater for our high tea, and who better to call up than Flavours Catering! They provided us with the most beautiful and delicious savoury food to take our high tea to the next level. They are one of Sydney’s leading caterers and specialise in private and corporate catering that will be sure to impress your guests. They can do either drop-off orders as well as staffed event, whatever is most convenient for the occasion, they can even help you theme your event as well if you are pushed for time. For our high tea we had Flavours Catering drop the fresh, delicious and dazzling food off for us. Our menu consisted of seafood, however, you can feel free to steer away from the seafood if you prefer. It’s a great idea to stick with finger food, rather than anything you need to eat with a knife and fork. This should keep the mood lighter, and leave you with enough room to delve into the dessert foods!


Here’s the savoury menu they provided us with:

  • Fruit skewers
  • Cucumber and cream cheese finger sandwiches
  • Tomato tart tartin – Balsamic glaze, goats cheese & baby basil
  • Mediterranean tartlet – Roasted vegetables, feta cheese and baby basil pacific oysters
  • Smoked salmon bilini – Smoked cured salmon, creme fraiche and baby chive
  • Prawn pipette: with a tomato chilli & lime soup pipette
  • Devonshire scones – jam and cream

What’s a high tea without desserts and cake! We had the lovely Moly Styling Mad and Couture Bakes provide us with absolutely stunning and incredibly delicious sweets for the table! Moly from Moly Styling Mad custom designs and sets up beautiful dessert tables for any event you can think of, and yes, that includes Mother’s Day brunches! She can custom design chocolate wrappers with a personalised message on the front. For our high tea, Moly chose to stick with the theme and provided us with ‘Love you mum’ chocolates. A great idea is to set these chocolates out on the table so that everyone can take one home and enjoy at a later time as a sweet memoir of the occasion. They looked amazing on the table and helped bring the Mother’s Day theme to life.

She also created the most adorable detailed sugar art cookies. We were so impressed with the pink & green heart cookies, and the little pink roses. They looked so cute, we almost didn’t eat them in fear of ruining the designs (we still ate them so I guess we didn’t feel that bad)! You can buy cookie cutters and try creating your own designs, or call the professional to create them for you!

Scatter the table with jars of different lollies and chocolates for a variety of different sweets to choose from. It also helps to add extra pops of colour to complement the rest of the tablescape.

We were also hugely excited by the glittery chocolate cake pops she provided for our high tea! If you’ve never tried a cake pop before, we definitely want to encourage you to try Moly’s cake pops! Aside from the fact that they looked incredible and tied in so well with the theme, they also tasted like a little slice of heaven!

Balance out the sweets on the table with healthy and refreshing fruit skewers.

  • Rose topped cookies and love heart cookies
  • Chocolate cake pops
  • White chocolate freckles
  • Vanilla cupcakes topped with pink icing
  • Black and white stripped table runner
  • Personalised chocolate
  • Pink candy chew lollies
  • Gold chocolate sixlets
  • Cupcakes – dulce de luche, matcha white chocolate, chocolate mint, vanilla and cookies and cream
  • Vanilla pink cake


And lastly, but most definitely not least, Couture Bakes created the most gorgeous vanilla pink cakes along with her cupcakes. She specialises in cakes, cupcakes, cookies and sweet treats to satisfy your sweet tooth, and let us tell you, they did just that! It’s amazing enough that the cake features pink flowers on top with the gold foil and pink watercolored icing, but wait there’s more. There was awes all round when the cake was cut into to reveal the cake layered in different shades of pink!
