You’re soon to be expecting a little baby, there really isn’t anything sweeter than bringing a little bundle of joy into the world! Congratulations, this is such an exciting time for you soon to be mamma’s. Planning a baby shower is one of the most exciting things you can do before welcoming your new little baby into the world.
There are so many fun ways to get creative with baby showers these days that anything goes! Which is great because it leaves lots of room to get creative and style an amazing baby shower. Most baby showers will be planned by the mum-to-be’s mum, sister or friend. Some soon to be mums are even planning their own baby showers these days, it all comes down to what you’re comfortable with.
If the traditional baby shower (mum-to-be surrounded by girlfriends at a home) doesn’t fit your idea of a good time, you can still celebrate in your own style. A baby shower can really be whatever you want to make it – as long as you’re happy and the event encourages friends and family to celebrate the impending arrival of your baby with you, it doesn’t matter who comes or where it’s held.
Where to have it?
Most baby showers are held at the hostess’s house. You could host a baby shower at your or a friends house and make it DIY. Another great option is to host it at a cute restaurant or cafe with your own private space booked out. You can also consider holding the party in a public space like a neighbourhood park — just make sure to check on whether the location requires a permit. If you choose an outdoor venue, you’ll also need to put a rain plan in place.
A marquee would be the perfect option! Surfcoast Party Hire have some beautiful marquees that can be styled and set up perfectly for a baby shower. We love these gorgeous designs.
Who to invite?
All your closest family and friends and anyone who you want there to wish you well before the birth of your newborn! Modern baby showers are so different now, you can even invite your partner and his friends if you want everyone there. Mostly it’s just the girls but it’s entirely up to you and who you want there to celebrate with!

Gender Revealing Baby Shower
One big trend we have seen lately is a ‘Gender Reveal Baby Shower.’ Sounds fun right?! Of course when you are pregnant the most common questions you get is, “Do you know what you’re having?” “Is it a boy or a girl?” followed by comments on what each person hopes it will be. We imagine this might drive some of you a little crazy, so if you found out the sex of your baby but have decided to keep it a secret to unveil at the baby shower the Gender Reveal Baby Shower is the perfect idea for you!
A gender reveal party can be held on its own, or in combination with a traditional baby shower. It can also be held secret as a final reveal for guests or even for the parents-to-be themselves. Yes thats right! Some couples these days are getting their doctor to write down the sex of their baby and seal it in an envelope, and the couple keep it until the reveal at the shower. If you have that much willpower we say go for it, it’s such an amazing idea and will create a beautiful moment of emotions with family and friends on the day of the shower! If you cant keep it from yourself, you can just reveal it to guests! We bet keeping what sex your baby is a secret from your guests has been hard enough for the last 8 months and you must be dying to let it out!!
We have some great ideas on how you can make the big reveal!
These cute gender revealing balloons from Whimsy Chuffed would be a super fun way to reveal the gender of your impending bundle of joy! Measuring a massive 36″ and pre-filled with your choice of pink or blue/green confetti, they are sure to make an impact at your gender reveal party! Just 18.95, its a bargain!
There are so many fun games you can play at a baby shower! Get creative 🙂 We have listed a few to get you started!
1. Baby Shower Onesies
Get a lil’ crafty at your baby shower with this great practical idea. Buy enough onesies (multiple sizes) to give one to each guest. Stretch each across a piece of cardboard and pass them out at the shower along with fabric paint and miscellaneous baby-safe decorative elements. Then, invite everyone to tap into their creative sides by painting a onesie masterpiece designed specifically for the bundle of joy. Once dry, the future parents will have practical works of art to cherish.
2. Baby Dec-a-Cake
Before the shower, bake a batch of cupcakes, dropping in a single miniature plastic baby in one random cup. At the shower, bring out the platter of undecorated cupcakes-without letting on that one is secretly ‘pregnant’-and give all guests a supply of frosting, candies and baby decorations. After everyone has decorated their own unique cupcake, the mom-to-be chooses her favourite and the winner gets a prize. Then, just as guests are about to devour the baked goodies whole, let everyone know that whoever finds the baby is next in line to have her own!
3. Guess the Baby Photo
Ask your guests to bring along a baby photo of themselves and number them. Pin them on the board with their numbers. Then give the guests a notepad listed with the numbers. Ask them to look at the baby photos on the board and try to guess who’s baby photo is who by writing the persons name against the number on the notebook. Then read out the correct number and who the baby is in the photos as guests mark off who they got correct. Select a prize for the winner who guessed the most correct numbers of the baby photos!
4. Baby Bottle Races
Fill up baby bottles to the brim for each guest. You can fill them with some kind of milky cocktail or mocktail, or any other drink of your choosing. Count down from three to begin the race and whoever finishes their baby bottle the fastest wins the baby bottle race! You could give out prizes for those who manage to place 1st, 2nd or 3rd in the race.
5. Nappy Fashions
This is a fun, fast-paced game if you want an active baby shower game to play! You’ll need lots of toilet paper and some tape to play this one. Split your guests into two or more teams and supply each team with plenty of toilet paper. Tell each team to choose a model that they’re going to make a diaper out of toilet paper for. Give the teams 3 minutes to make the best, most fashionable diaper that they can!
Food & Drink
If you are holding the baby shower at a restaurant venue, then you don’t need to worry about catering your event, however, if the baby shower is being held at someone’s home then you’ll need to put some thought into how you’re going to feed your guests. If you’re anxious about making enough food for all your guests, you can always get a little help from the professionals. Here are a few food professionals that can help you out, (we highly recommend each and any of them, they make delicious food).
