About the Theme
You wouldn’t believe what’s trending this spring/summer! Farmers market parties are popping up in everyones backyards and we wanted to know what it takes to throw our own. Even weddings have jumped on board with this theme! For some, there’s nothing quite like spending Sunday morning at the local farmers markets. Fresh produce, food stalls and local artisan foods make getting up early on your weekend worth it. But what if we told you you can skip the crowds, spend the day with your closest friends and still get your weekend dose of fresh food!
This theme can be adapted for all occasions – kids birthdays, engagement parties, or our favourite excuse to party, to celebrate summer time!
Farmers Market Party Decorations
You will want your guests to step into your party thinking that they are actually at the markets so this is your chance to go wild! You shouldn’t fall short of flowers, fresh fruits, yummy vegetables, organic drinks, rustic props, and lush scenery.
If you have time on the morning of the party, take a trip to your local flower markets and choose your favourite flowers to the theme. But if you want to have everything planned well before the day of your party, we recommend DIY Floral for their fast service and expert knowledge on florals. Browse their farm-fresh flowers with the option to customise your arrangement or choose from the pre-selected options. They service Metro Sydney and the Central Coast region.
If arranging fruit and veg around the party it’s going to make all the difference if you use the appropriate display props. We love this Natural Woven Basket from Hip and Hooray, perfect for the theme and can be used time and time again.
Add a little extra flair with wooden signage. If you’re not sure where to get your hands on customised signage, Jo’s Signs by Design can help you out. She is your one stop large format digital printing and design studio. Take a look at what she has done in the past with a wooden illusion.
Still strapped for ideas? Have a look at how others have aced the farmers market bash before.
Sitting around the table to feast and chat is probably the main event of the party, so leave a lasting impression on your friends by putting together a wildly natural tablescape.
If you are looking to purchase all of your cutlery needs in one place, but still still sticking to the theme, we found this Enviro Party Kit from The Kit Source. This kit contains plates, cups, cutlery, napkins, straws, goody bags all made from sustainable materials. They ship all over Australia, saving you much needed time and money.
We suggest trying to use a wooden table, meaning you won’t have to add a table cover. But if you would like to use one to cover up an old or out-of-theme table, The Party’s Here have a huge range of different colours and shapes on their website. Or if you can get your hands on some hessian table runners, this could be the best of both worlds.
It goes without saying that a farmers market bash should be hosted outdoors! Now that the weather has picked up, what a better time to open up the doors and step out onto the grass. If you don’t have a suitable backyard to host, you could hit up your local park or hire an outdoor venue pending on your budget.
Food and Drinks
It will be easy for you to get inspired about cooking with all the fresh fruit and vegetables around. Get those mouths watering with wholesome stews, roasted veggies, fresh bread, and tangy salads.
Another fun idea could be to have a DIY pizza bar and wood fire, with different olives, cheeses, leafy greens, tomatoes and onions. Dessert should be easy, having a selection of fruit salads, chia jam pots, home-made blueberry pies, and sorbets if you are feeling a little adventurous.
Depending on the scale of your event, you may need the help of caterers to feed all of those mouths! Flavours Catering based in Artarmon (but flexible with various Sydney locations) have a dynamic team that love coming up with innovative concepts with amazing flavours – a must have for a farmers market bash. Trying a little bit of everything is what markets are all about, so why not ask for an array of finger-foods to try?
If you end up with a tasty variety of different options, it would be a fun idea to label your food with these Chalkboard Stakes from Hip and Hooray, making sure your guests know what they can and can’t eat.
Drink dispensers and jugs seem to be the key element of serving drinks up at a market bash. Have a chat with Hayati’s Mobile Bartending to discuss drink options, who also supply everything that you need including drink dispensers. Not only do they specialise in delicious cocktails but they also only choose fresh ingredients for their drinks.
Or opt for some refreshing organic juices or infused water, especially on those hotter days!
